Why Your Plumbing Problems May Be Attracting Pests

Plumbing

Whether you realize it or not, some of the plumbing issues in your home may be attracting pests.

If there is one thing you don’t want to be worried about this summer, it has to be pests taking over your house. It seems like once one critter is found crawling on the ground, a host of them arriving making the experience dreadful and the pest control bill even more depressing. If you could prevent pest from coming into your house in the beginning, it could save you a lot of headache and paranoia. Pest can be found entering your house because something you least expect is attracting them: moisture. If you think about the places where pest have been found in the place, they’ve all been places where moisture was used in a product or moisture was leaked into your house. Pest like mice, rats, cockroaches, termites and carpenter ants are some of the pests you can find attracted to the leaked moisture. Here are some areas, products, and plumbing issues that are attracting these pests for future prevention.

Water Heater Leaks

Water heaters aren’t your normal places to check for pests, but if closely examined you will find that some have been or already are there. This is because your water heater can hold moisture and can sometimes leak and go unnoticed since it isn’t a place that is checked out daily. Because maintenance is not consistently performed on the heater or people wait to replace the one they have, pests become a breeding ground to this area. To solve this problem, check the water heater annually and get regular maintenance on the product.

Basement Moisture

There’s a reason why bugs flock to the basement before any other place in your house. This is where all your plumbing is, the water heater we’ve just mentioned, and crawl spaces that can’t be checked. Often times, the basement hasn’t been finished, which created even higher moisture levels and attracts the most annoying pest. Putting together an unfinished basement and leaking plumbing should immediately signal pests are a potential next worry. If you do have an unfinished basement, look for brown stainings, which will signal water leaks. You’ll be able to fix the problem before spending more money on a bigger pest issue.

Faucets

Faucets are an everyday use in the kitchen and can be prime attraction area for pest to circulate in your house. Not only is moisture in your sinks, but moisture can consistently be released from the faucets. What can attract the pest to come is not properly turning the faucet off, leaving it leaking for pests to come and find.

Water Appliances

Have you thought about how much water you use to wash your dishes and your clothes? These are appliances that can attract pests because of the high levels of moisture. A leak can occur at any second and the longer you take the fix the problem the quicker you progress the inevitable pest invasion. Call a repairman as soon as you can.
