It’s one of those household tasks that’s easy to avoid wanting to do but having clean toilets can go a long way in having a refreshing bathroom experience. Prep Your Space
First, you want to get the entire space cleared out. Remove toilet paper, bathroom sprays, plungers, whatever you’re keeping on top of your toilet that can make it difficult to clean. Let’s be honest, we all store stuff up there, so make sure you take out all those clunky items so you can clean your toilet without worrying about getting your possessions wet.
Use a Toilet Cleaner
Put the lid down and flush your toilet. Once you’ve done this, it’s time to get to cleaning—first, by adding your choice of toilet bowl cleaner. Try to get as close to the rim of your toilet as possible when doing this. Just about every cleaner out there requires you to let it set for a few minutes, so you may as well take that time to do something else.
Wipe Down the Exterior
While waiting for your cleaner to do its work, take some time to wipe down the outside. Begin at the top of the tank and work your way down to the base. Use your cleaning spray and wipe it down, including everything from the lid to the handle. Make sure you pay special attention to the base, which is an easy place to overlook.
Clean the Seat
The seat should require some special attention. Spray it down completely and wipe everything until you get that nice, new toilet sparkle. You also want to make sure you close the toilet so you can get the areas behind the seat and the hinges as well, which are areas that accumulate a lot of gunk.
Scrub the Inside
By the time you’re done with the rest of the steps, it’s time to scrub the bowl. Use your toilet brush to work from top to bottom. Begin underneath the rim and move down to the hole at the bottom of the bowl. After you’re done scrubbing, close the lid and flush.
Take Care of the Tank
You may not even know that cleaning the tank is an important part of bathroom maintenance but it is! Scrub this down while you already have all the supplies on hand.
