There are several different plumbing pipes available to homeowners. Whether you are looking to replace your home or businesses’ pipes or you are embarking on a brand new build, it is important to know all of your options. Depending on the job, certain pipes are better suited than others to get the job done correctly. Let us take a look at what is available and the ideal pipes for all of your home’s plumbing needs!
Pex Piping
Polyethylene or Pex piping is made up of plastic and used for water supply piping systems throughout businesses or homes. Flexibility is a huge component of Pex piping, making it much easier to install than other more rigid choices. It is also much more heat resistant and durable. The initial costs of Pex installation tend to be a bit higher than other pipes. However, it does require little to no maintenance. They’re generally leak-free, easy to install, corrosion-resistant, and less expensive than copper pipes.
Copper Piping
Usually used to construct or renovate gas line plumbing systems, copper piping is a durable and reliable choice for homeowners and businesses alike. They are capable of handling pressure all the way up to 1000 psi, and they’re great at withstanding cold and hot temperatures. While copper pipes are much more expensive than other choices, they will last you a long time, potentially 50 to 70 years, if installed properly. One thing to know is that the copper pipes will not perform as well if your water is very acidic. These pipes are reliable against corrosion, fire-resistant, and won’t release dangerous materials such as lead into your water.
PVC Piping
Polyvinyl chloride, otherwise known as PVC pipes, are used for multiple piping applications. Such as transporting drinking water into fire sprinkler systems. PVC piping is a very durable and cost-effective alternative to lead-based piping that is being utilized widely throughout the United States and Europe. Further, PVC piping can also operate effectively for up to 100 years. These pipes are used for portable drinking water or sewage-related applications. Depending on the kind of job, PVC pipes with different levels of thickness are also an option.
Galvanized Piping
Galvanized pipes are built of steel that has been dipped in a molten zinc protective coating to prevent or delay corrosion or rust. It was a popular choice around the 1960s and was invented as an alternative to standard lead pipes. These pipes are a bit outdated, though, so if your home is older, give our plumbers a call to come inspect your piping system to offer a better pipe solution.
