Remodeling Your Kitchen or Bathroom? You Need a Plumber!

Mahon Plumbing Remodeling Kitchen Bathroom Plumber

If you’re remodeling your kitchen or bathroom, do yourself a favor and hire a plumber right at the start.

A home remodel is an exciting—and expensive—time for any homeowner. This is a popular way for homeowners to update less-desirable areas in their homes and tailor them to their wants and needs. Sometimes these updates are purely aesthetic, but many remodeling projects are also used to improve functionality and make significant upgrades to the space. When a lot of functional changes are being made, aspects such as electrical and plumbing become part of the remodeling process. When this happens, you can’t rely on your remodeling contractor. They are not licensed electricians or plumbers, so they are not qualified to make these updates to your home. You need a professional plumber on your team if you’re planning a kitchen or bathroom remodel.

Get an Inspection Done

When your home is undergoing a kitchen or bathroom remodel, it is highly recommended (and often necessary) for the plumbing to be inspected if you are working on or around it. Plumbing issues are one of the most frequent reasons for remodeling delays. Due to this, it’s often better to just hire a professional plumber that you trust right at the start of your remodeling project to come in and inspect your plumbing once it has been uncovered.

Inspections are important because they can reveal any current problems that need to be addressed, as well as any wear and tear that is likely to lead to problems in the near future.

Prevent Future Issues

Having your plumbing exposed during a remodel isn’t just good for an inspection—it’s also a good opportunity for repairs and preventative maintenance. Having a costly remodel done on your home, only to be faced with serious plumbing issues that could damage your beautiful new space, is less than ideal. The cost of a home remodel can be significant, so it’s good practice to budget for the work of a professional plumber—especially if you’re having your kitchen or bathroom done. If you live in an older home, the need for this is even higher.

This can actually save you money in the long run, as having preventative maintenance done will be less costly than undergoing emergency repairs later on.

Make Adjustments

If you plan on making any plumbing adjustments, you will need a professional plumber to do this. Remodeling contractors are not usually licensed plumbers, and therefore they are not qualified to handle any plumbing repairs or adjustments that are needed.

Having a custom shower built, having a freestanding tub or island sink installed, or moving s sink—all of these changes will require a licensed professional plumber to make appropriate adjustments to your plumbing that will accommodate them.
